Best
Use of the Web -
over/under 500k views/month
Best Use of the Web judging criteria:
Entrants
had to demonstrate a mastery of photographic storytelling in an online
environment. Content, interface design, navigation and interactivity
were all evaluated to find sites that attempted to further the evolution
of web-based photojournalism.
First Place:
Aging
in America - MSNBC.com - over 500k views/month
First Place: Touching
Hearts - heraldsun.com (Joe Weiss) - under 500k views/month
Second Place: (no award*)
Third Place: (no award*)
Judges'
comments:
While presenting
strong and well-rounded packages that contained quality multimedia
and picture stories, the entries in Best Use of the Web failed to
fully utilize tools of online storytelling. Entries in other categories
better demonstrated the depth and potential of the online medium.
Therefore,
the committee awards first place to MSNBC's "Aging in America" (for
sites with more than 500,000 unique visitors per month) and a first
place to the heraldsun.com's "Touching Hearts" (for sites with less
than 500,000 unique visitors per month).
Aging in America
demonstrates solid reporting, an engaging story line, exceptional
photojournalism and audio, and quality usability and navigation.
Heraldsun.com, with "Touching Hearts," exemplifies the best in online
story telling despite its limited online resources.

Honerable Mention: aphotoaday.org
Judges comments:
For developing a unique photojournalistic sense of community, its
interactive listerv, and overall quality of photographs, the judges
award an honorable mention to aphototoaday.org.
In
several categories, first, second, or third place awards were not
given because the work did not reflect the standards expected from
that position compared to the entire body of contest submissions.
