Overall
judges' comments:
"I kept looking for a Rodney King thing or an O.J. Simpson
story. Improving schools is just as important as a news story like
a riot....I started to look at it a little harder because I wasn't
looking at the caption... I was looking at the pictures only....Because
I work for a national news publication, I was looking at it [the
winner] as a local story. ...Looking at the proofs made me change
my mind. I was studying the pictures harder....I studied them more
and I started feeling more about them." ---ROBERT HANASHIRO
