| On the
day Timothy McVeigh is executed, a mourner places his hand on
the "Gates of Time" at the Oklahoma National Memorial
which stands on the former site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal
Building. After dipping your hand in the reflecting pool, it
has become ritual to leave a handprint. McVeigh received the
death penalty for blowing up the building with a 7-pound bomb
that killed 168 people. |

Judges'
Comments:
"It's the perfect way to comment and to illustrate the McVeigh
execution without showing him or the death chamber, but instead
by concentrating on the people who were effected, the victims. We
had all seen the chairs and the memorial already."
"Beautifully
done and evocative of the victims. A very nice memory...I think
your eye goes to it immediately. The composition and the reflections,
just lovely..."

"Most
of the time in this category, it is pretty pictures. This thing
was a pretty picture from a news event that interpreted it with
a picture that was memorable. It has meaning and not just a pretty
picture. It's a tough category because it's mixed in with scenic
elements and mountains."
