Prize Photo Stirs Ethical Debate
POSTED WEDNESDAY MARCH
27
The
National Press Photographers Association
gave a top award to a previously unpublished, highly sensitive photograph
last week, setting off a controversy over publishing standards on
various platforms. On March 27, NPPA released a digitally manipulated
version of the prize photograph on its website. The image shows a
woman being sexually assaulted during the violent culmination of Mardi
Gras in Seattle last year.
NPPA
'Kids Choice' Award
POSTED FRIDAY MARCH 22
The
NPPA Best of Photojournalism Contest judges received a little extra
help with their duties from a few budding photographers on Wednesday.
A group of youngsters participating in a photojournalism mentorship
program at the Tampa Housing Authority visited The Poynter Institute
to mingle with their older colleagues. The students are enrolled in
"Focus on Mentoring," a community-based program designed
to introduce students to the world of photojournalism. After the professional
judges evaluated "The Arts" category on Wednesday, the students
viewed the images and offered their opinions.
