Here they are. Let me know if you need anything else. Zoran Basich, executive
editor, The Examiner
After considering several possible front pages with single, dominant images related to Sept. 11, we decided to avoid printing a keepsake. As a tabloid, we felt it was important to maintain newsiness, even at the risk of downplaying the poignancy of the day on the front page. The news that our government was announcing that the risk of another attack was greater than at any time in recent months made it an easy decision to lead with that story. We also wanted to recall our front page from last Sept. 12, which struck a chord with an incredible number of people. We did that with a teaser on the front and a poster inside. Our special section that day focused on local reaction and remembrance. |

| The Examiner's aim is to provoke, which probably makes it harder to do something distinctive on a day like Sept. 11. So even though orange, red and solid black blare at us from this front, it's pretty much a workaday reversed-oblique-headlines cover in Tabloid Land. The only false note is the skybox P.J. Corkery refer with its delicate champagne color. I might have wished for something in a lower key, but, hey, I don't much like Fox News either. |
