| I
am a December journalism graduate from the University of Colorado
at Boulder pursuing a career in photojournalism. It was after
studying on a human development program in northeastern Thailand,
where I had the chance to become intimately involved in the
lives of the poor and their communities, that I saw the power
of journalism. Maybe I could give a voice to the poor farmer
that was struggling to survive in the harsh conditions of a
developing country. Social and economic justice issues consumed
me, and after I returned to school, I carried my experience
to my next few newspaper internships – The Albuquerque Tribune,
The Durango Herald, The Greeley Tribune, and the
Longmont Daily Times-Call. I was excited to feel the
same passion for community journalism at home that I found abroad.
After the Poynter fellowship, I want to return to Thailand to
continue photo projects and find a way to pursue photojournalism
internationally. |
