El-Tantawy is an international student from Egypt studying at
the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. Four years ago, El-Tantawy
arrived in the United States pursuing a degree in Computer Science,
which she soon dropped after realizing she had a true passion
for journalism. She is particularly drawn to photojournalism
because she likes to think of her camera as an x-ray machine.
She can see through people and capture their feelings and emotions.
El-Tantawy interned at the Morgan County Citizen, a weekly
newspaper in Madison, Ga., in Summer 2000 as a reporter and
photographer. She has also been a contributing photographer
for her college publication, the Red & Black. After Poynter,
El-Tantawy plans to go back to the University of Georgia to
complete her dual degree in political science. Future prospects
include working for a small daily and hopefully working for
the wire services. |
