ABOUT KAREN
STORIES

Karen Iwamoto was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, where she spent her childhood writing stories about her neighborhood friends. Her first encounter with an editor occurred when she was about seven or eight and misspelled a friend’s last name. The friend, who pointed out that she knew how to spell Karen’s name, was not amused. Karen left the Big Island after graduating from high school in 1998. She moved to Oahu to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She graduated in May with a B.A. in journalism and is looking forward to chronicling life in St. Petersburg.
