| Joannie
Sevilla was born in Guam but has lived in San Jose, Calif.,
for most of her life. She spent her Junior year in high scool
at a boarding school in the Phillipines. She worked for the
San Jose Mercury News in several departments: Classified
Sales in Advertising, Market Research in Marketing and in the
newsroom as assistant to the managing editor. She said that
working in the newsroom at the Mercury News was the defining
moment in her career when she realized she wanted to be a journalist.
After Poynter, Joannie will do her second stint at San Jose
State University's Spartan Daily as a senior staff writer,
and graduate in December with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor
in English. |
