Visual journalism fellows used mixed media, including found objects, to illustrate their first impressions of St. Petersburg.

Jim Korpi described the inspiration for his "Boxy View," at right.

"The ride down to St. Petersburg, for me, was an adventure all by itself, so my impressions of the city had to incorporate that somehow," he said. "The choice to enclose the view of St. Petersburg in a box stemmed from the idea that viewing scenes from the boxy interior of a car is similar to looking at the world with horse blinders on."
