THE POYNTER INSTITUTE’S
1999 College Fellowship
in Visual Journalism

June 11-July 16, 1999

This five-week summer program will bring together top student designers, editors, photographers, illustrators and online producers for an intense exploration of the past, present and future of news and information design.

Goals of the Fellowship
To explore the past, present and future of visual journalism.
To consider all the tools of telling stories: text; type/color/architecture; information graphics; traditional and photo illustration; documentary photojournalism; online design, and interactivity.
To better understand the concepts of community and diversity through our journalism and design.
To study the concept of “branding” - how a solid visual identity across media reinforces a publication's role in the marketplace.
To become more critical and analytical thinkers, about our own work and that of others.
